The NAVGD comprise of different African organisations and individuals of different nationalities and exist since two years.
We aim at improving our living standards here abroad through active participation socially, economically and politically.
At the beginning for most of the members of the Network the drug scene in Düsseldorf was a pressing issue, because a young African died in January 2001 a police arrest attempt. The deceased was suspected to be dealing drugs at Worringer Platzt. The reputation of Blacks living in this region was imminent to be ruined because of the African drug dealers. The Network started an anti-drug campaign and to demonstrate prejudice of Blacks. In cooperation with artists, actions against the drug trafficking have been initiated. At the same time the Network mounted a research on the lives and situation of African families in and around Düsseldorf. The result is alarming. A project is necessary to address the situation to prevent the families and some refugees, children, the youth and women most specially from dropping further into even a more severely underprivileged social group. We are looking for sponsors.
We are doing lobby work for Africans in the region, and represent our interest publicly. Our office is already serving many. We help where we can.
In this context the Network works together with more than a dozen of social and other institutions in Düsseldorf, from the workers' welfare association to the foreigners' advisory council.
In December 2002 the African Network got the SPD-award for civil engagement.
It is our responsibility to safeguard and protect the interests and rights of our community, give help and motivate everyone to build up their Capacity. We assist Africans searching for job or the youth in search of skill - training possibilities or something like that.
In this context the topic "solar energy for Africa" is distinctively interesting for the Network, because these techniques have a big importance for Africa and a necessity of well-educated Africans exists. This is one of the reasons, why the Network decides also to actively prepare interested Africans for the conference. Please have a Look at our network program plan.
